HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT CONNECTOR AND TUBING FOR YOUR APPLICATION

Until the mid-1980s, the water conditioning industry did not include anything plastic. With this introduction came plastic push-fit type fittings and Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems that utilized these plastic pumps.

Product assemblers, manufacturers, installers and service departments were enthusiastic at this assembly and the speed with which tube connections and water service could be made. Unfortunately, many found that the fittings did not allow a negative pressure (vacuum) application and failure followed. Since these problems, many advances and changes in fitting designs have been made.

To help you choose the right connector and tubing for your application, Parker broke everything down in a recent blog post.

Choosing the right accessories for your application
Material selection for drinking water. This selection process must include Instrument Grade FDA and NSF 51 and/or NSF 61 standards compliance. A material selection guide is typically provided by the manufacturer and is recommended for review to confirm accurate selection of the components.

Water pressure. When measuring the static water pressure, be aware of the expected water pressure. You can acquire this by using a faucet mounted pressure gauge, or calling your local water authority.

Water temperature. You should know the maximum temperature for the application and if there is a hot-water circuit included. When gaging the working pressure (WP), make sure it’s within the temperature and pressure ranges.

Environmental conditions. Be aware of where this installation will take place. The routing of the tube will change depending on the facility. This will help to protect water quality, keep the water safe and keep the people healthy.

Hostile environments. Depending on the environment, corrosion or injury may occur. It’s important to be mindful of where the tubing, fittings and valves are installed to prevent this from happening.

Service and maintenance. When deciding the tubing system, be sure to install it so it’s easily accessible for inspections and repairs.
