HOW TO BE SAFE WHEN WORKING WITH COMPRESSED NITROGEN GAS

Working with compressed nitrogen gas can be a dangerous task when handled incorrectly. Since 36% of nitrogen gas supplied by gas companies is delivered in high-pressure cylinders, it is extremely important to be aware of necessary precautions.

There are a variety of procedures and checks that need to be carried out each time a gas cylinder is exchanged. Disconnecting and resealing cylinder valves is a large responsibility. Proper checks need to be in place to ensure the operation is handled safely.

In a recent blog post, Parker lists specific safety inspection procedures that need to be carried out when handling nitrogen gas cylinders, including:

  • Color coding and labeling cylinders to determine contents
  • Check seal caps on the cylinder to ensure it is undamaged and free of contaminants
  • Check the dates of cylinders to ensure they are used within their inspection period
  • Make sure the pressure rating is suitable for the cylinder pressure

Integrating routine safety checks will ensure your company remains responsible and free from any accidents that may occur from improper care.
